Finnish Champs - day 2

30.6.2007

Two days behind of the Finnish Open Championship here in Helsinki and in what wind conditions.

DAY1

Yesterday the fleet enjoyed of 10-12 m/s (gusts appr 15m/s) SW wind conditions. The result of the day - only one race with 2 broken masts and a couple of sail damages. Of course many nice wipe outs were sawn during downwind legs. Race winner FIN 529 / Midnight Sun Sailing One and followed by EST 646 / Lenny.

DAY 2

Today the wind and weather conditions couldn´t have been better. Wind from SW with a velocity of 5-7 m/s and of sunshine from a blue sky. Today the Melges 24 fleet had company on the same race course from the Hboats, Dragons, Stars. Three scheduled and sailed races. Throughout the entire day the fleet had really tight racing. Speed differences were minimal between the boats making the racing what one design and Melges 24 racing really is all about - manouvers and tactics. Race two winner FIN 529 / Midnight Sun Sailing and winner in races three + four EST 646 / Lenny.

After day two it looks that the top 3 boats have broken away from the others (note the possible throw out). But behind Lenny, Midnight Sun Sailing One and Midnight Sun Sailing Two the fight is between SIX boats!

It´s going to be really interesting today... The weather forecast for tomorrow is NE to E and with a velocity of 6-9m/s.

Preliminary results after day 2 - report coming later today. Results click here
