The most northern Melges 24 competition ever before was sailed today here in Oulu. Oulu is only 200 kilometres from the Arctic Circle:-) The weather was magnificant - blue sky, 15 degrees, wind from NW with a velocity varying from 3 to 5 m/s. Wind conditions were unbelievable steady. The fleet got only a couple of shifts varying from 10 to 20 degrees. Five starts were sailed today and 2 races are scheduled for tomorrow.
The local team FIN236 helmed by Jorma Kinnunen sailed steadily through out the day but FIN316 helmed by Henri Jefimoff close behind. The two boat from Espoo (FIN650 and FIN437) will be having a tight race for bronze.
This fabulous event will continue tonight with a Finnish sauna, dinner and beer...
Stay tuned for more tomorrow.
