Besides that the 7th Finnish Open Championship was officially opened today outside Helsinki a "smaller" event was "kicked off" in Beijing. Good luck to all Olympic athletes!
During the long weekend there will be 14 Melges 24 teams from three different nations sailing for the Finnish Open Championship and the "Pohjola Trophy". The first ever Finnish Class Championship was sailed back in 2000.
The racing conditions were good after the heavy rain fall in the morning only 3 hours before the first start at 14.00 at Melkki race area. Throughout the three races the weather was partly sunny with a couple of small rain showers. The wind shifted according to the predictions - SE to SW. But the wind velocity was much off the prediction. The fleet had appr from appr. 4 to 7 m/s conditions.
