Day 1 of the Finnish Estonian Melges 24 ranking 2 here in Espoo has come to a conclusion. A tough 4 race day behind the 17 boat fleet - 7 hours on waters. During the day the rain showers and the coldness went away and the sunshine came in. The winds varied from S to SE to SW, velocity picking up during the last two races. During the last race boats clocked appr. 13 knots of downwind speeds. Good taste for tomorrow because the forecast is 16 - 18 knots of wind:-)
The fleet enjoyed really tight racing. The first race was suspended due to the lack of wind and unfair conditions. But after a short waiting the flee was off.
In the lead "Zuxu" EST 791 helmed by Peter Saraskin with 8 points (1,4,2,1) and second with 14 points FIN-645 helmed by Freddy Markelin (2,2,8,2). Just behind Midnight Sun Sailing Two FIN-214 helmed by Esa Harjulahti with 24 points (6,1,12,5). Note that there are no discards so the race is wide open.
Competition continues tomorrow at 11am.
