No racing today outside Helsinki due to a exceptional reason - too much wind. Usually it´s due to the lack of wind. Well - all boats arrived to the race area. And already 30 minutes to the start we had +25 knots of wind and in the gusts +30 knots. Most of the boats surfed downwind 15-16 knots with only the main sail:-)
Then 10 minutes to the start a dark cloud front started coming in. The race committe gave us the signal to go to the harbor. The wind started picking up even more - giving steady winds of +30 knots and gusts near to 36 knots.
Good decision from the RC because it would have been a survival game of the Melges 24 history. During the afternoon hours the wind started blowing over 40 knots and giving gusts near to 50 knots.
Tomorrow´s first scheduled start is at 11 am. The goal is to race 4 races.
